To the Editor:
(Canastota, NY – Sept. 2014) Members of the Madison County Democratic Committee have endorsed Sherrill City Councilman Michael Hennessy in his bid for the 121st Assembly District. As a three-term Oneida County legislator, Mike has vowed to set policies in motion to insure a better future for all of us. The primary is in just a few weeks. Please vote for Mike Hennessy; he is a voice for the people.
Mike has promised to back and promote a sound fiscal policy. He supports raising the minimum wage, which actually promotes economic growth by putting money in the pockets of working families. And it’s about time; New York’s minimum wage has only gone up 10 cents in the last five years. He believes in term limits, which would force out career politicians who put their interests above the people they represent. He believes in marriage equality; everyone should be treated fairly.
On fracking, Mike has stated, ‘we need to protect our environment and prevent fracking.’ Based on current evidence this new fracking technology will affect our region’s “lifestyle” by increasing heavy industrial road use, as well as threatening environmental quality. Mike will not support the heavy industry of hydrofracking, period.
And Mike has already proven he keeps his promises. As county legislator, he proposed reducing the size of the legislature, eliminating costly benefits for part-time elected officials, secured the first state audit in decades, was voted minority leader by his peers in 2008 and was ranked number-one most fiscally responsible member on the legislature.
Mike was appointed to the Oneida County Ethics Board.
We live in beautiful central New York, but we have serious issues facing us: the economy, jobs and our quality of life. Mike knows our children’s future is dependent on how we address these issues. We need a true leader to fix Albany – something that has been sorely missing for many years.
