(Canastota, NY –Sept. 2014) Runners and walkers from around the area have a chance to win cash prizes and to raise money for a good cause during the first-ever Dick Rossi Remembrance 7K run and walk Saturday, Oct. 11, at 10 a.m.; the event is held in memory of Bryan Rossi, who died in a tractor trailer accident in 2007 and his father, Dick Rossi, who died of cancer Nov. 5.

Both men had been active supporters and volunteers at the Kid’s Day events.

The event starts on North Main Street in Canastota and ends at Saint Agatha’s Church, Wilson Street, Canastota. Runners and walkers who register by Sept. 29 will get a free t-shirt with their $35 registration fee.

Registration forms are available at www.canastotakidsday.org. Run/walk registration packets may be picked up at the Canastota High School Gym Friday between 2 and 5 p.m. or Saturday between 7:30 and 9 a.m.

First-place cash award is $400 in male and female categories; second-place award is $200; third place is $100. All participants will receive a free lunch after the 7K at the Canastota High School gymnasium. Spectators are also welcome to enjoy hamburgers and hotdogs and more for a minimal cost.

All proceeds benefit Canastota Kid’s Day, which is planned for Saturday, Aug. 15, at the Canastota Firemen’s Field. Low-income families play, ride and eat for free. The event features bounce houses, rides, games, face painting, entertainment all day, crafters and vendors.
