Morrisville State volleyball drops three games in home tri-match

(Morrisville, NY – Sept. 28, 2014) The Morrisville State College women’s volleyball hosted a tri-match at home, on Saturday, Sept. 27.  They faced LaRoche College, University of Rochester and Alfred University.  The Mustangs finished 0-3 for the day.

The first match of the day was against LaRoche College, with the Red Hawks winning each set 25,-15, followed by 25-12 and finishing the match 25-13.  Erika Bailey (Newark, Valley, N.Y.) finished the match with 16 assists, 1 kill and 4 digs.  Kylie Murphy (Nichols, N.Y.) led the team with eight digs and added 3 kills.  Tiffany Jones- Maxwell (Hamilton, N.Y.) had the most kills with 5 for the match.

The Mustangs faced the University of Rochester in the second match of the day.  The first set proved to be close, with Morrisville falling 25-17.  Rochester won the next two, 25-9.  Bailey produced 13 assists with Maxwell-Jones contributing 5 kills.  Murphy once again had eight kills and Mary Stetson (Apalachian, N.Y.) added 7.

The final match of the day proved to be the best for the Mustangs, but their efforts came up short.  After losing the first set 25-21, Morrisville fought back and won the second set 25-20.  The third set went into extra points and the Mustangs fell 27-25.  The fourth and final set was a victory for the Saxons, winning 25-21.  Bailey produced 30 assists and six digs.  Jessica Chandler (Morrisville, N.Y.) led the Mustangs with 11 kills for the match.  Four Mustangs recorded double digit digs; Courtney Lavere (Oswego, N.Y.) and Shania Shaver (Candor, N.Y.) each had 10 digs, Murphy had 11 and Stetson led with 12.

The Mustangs return to action for a NEAC Crossover weekend, next Saturday and Sunday at Cazenovia College.  They will face Wells College, Keuka College, SUNY Cobleskill and SUNY IT.

Morrisville State women finish NEAC weekend 2-0

(Morrisville, NY – Sept. 28, 2014)  After a scoreless first half, the Mustangs offense found the back of the net three times for their second NEAC victory of the weekend.  Morrisville State won 3-0 against Gallaudet University on the road, Sunday afternoon.

Less than three minutes into the second half, Paris Matteo (Valley Stream, N.Y.) scored the first goal of the game with a 30 yard shot over the Gallaudet goalkeepers head.  Matteo assisted the second goal to Amber Welsh (Cortland, N.Y.) less than eight minutes later.  The final goal was scored by Celia Abbott (Shortsville, N.Y.) at the 73rd minute.

Angela Marriot (Peekskill, N.Y.) had her second shutout in two days, with two saves against Gallaudet.

This game brings the Mustangs to 6-4, 4-4 in conference.   The Mustangs will host Wells College next Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 4:00 p.m.
