(Cazenovia, NY – Oct. 2014) Ilion native and Cazenovia College sophomore Shelby McIntyre burst onto the cross country scene in 2013 after setting the all-time Cazenovia College record in the women’s 5k event with a time of 19:06 at the Hamilton College Invitational.
On Oct. 11 McIntyre toed the starting line once again at the Hamilton College course looking for a repeat performance. Instead, McIntyre made history on Saturday, shattering her record-setting pace from a year ago after completing the 5k course in18:55 (6:06 mile pace). Her time placed 20th among 161 total runners and ranked 1st among all North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opponents.
This season alone, McIntyre has turned in three top-ten finishes and has twice been awarded the NEAC women’s cross country runner of the week. Her record-setting performance on Saturday was yet another mark in a long list of outstanding performances from the sophomore.
“What Shelby has been able to accomplish in just her sophomore season is remarkable,” said Cazenovia College Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Michael Brooks. “She is a true competitor in every sense of the word. Her unparalleled will to succeed pushes not only herself, but her teammates as well.”
McIntyre will look to improve her rank among the conference’s elite on Nov. 1 at this year’s NEAC Championships after finishing 10th a season ago, which led to a 2nd Team All-Conference selection.
