Morrisville State women top Route 20 rival Cazenovia in NEAC showdown

(Morrisville, NY – Oct. 16, 2014) The Mustang women’s soccer team (9-5, 6-4 NEAC) defeated host Cazenovia College Wildcats for a 2-1 final, in a Route 20 match in Cazenovia.
Early in the first half, Courtney Purcell (Fabius, N.Y.) found the back of the net from Cassandra Premo (Taberg, N.Y.). The score remained 1-0 for the duration of the half, with the shots equal at 7-7. In the 58th minute, Cazenovia tied the score 1-1 on an unassisted goal by Kaitlyn Lyon.
To secure the win, Paris Matteo (Valley Stream, N.Y.) scored off an assist from Purcell in the 68th minute.
Finishing the game with nine saves, Angela Marriot (Peekskill, N.Y) allowed only one goal on the day.
The Mustangs continue the hunt for a playoff spot; they will host SUNYIT on Wednesday, Oct. 22.
McKoy nets hat trick, in dominate win over SUNY ESF

(Morrisville, NY – Oct. 17, 2014) The Morrisville State College men’s soccer (12-2, 7-1) team hosted SUNY ESF (8-7) Friday night on Drake Field. With a balanced and aggressive attack, the Mustangs rolled to a victory over the Mighty Oaks.
Just over three minutes into the game, Joe Sheehan (Liverpool, N.Y.) scored after beating his defender, off an assist from Gilroy Alvarez (Guatemala). The second goal of the night came in the 14th minute, with Rodriguez scoring off an assist from Julian Rodriguez (Bronx, N.Y.). The Mustangs offense was relentless in the first half, out shooting the Mighty oaks 14-0, finishing the first half 2-0.
Shortly into the second half, Brian Culkin (West Islip, N.Y.) passed the ball up to Jamesion McKoy (Bronx, N.Y.) who finished low for the Mustangs. Five minutes later, Jacob Chase flew by his defender and scored off a deflection of the goalkeeper’s hand. McKoy had his second goal for the night less than a minute later. McKoy completed the hat trick in the 40th minute with a chip shot over the goalies head.
The Mustangs will return to action Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 6 p.m. against NEAC opponent SUNY IT.
New Paltz rolls to SUNYAC win over Morrisville State

(New Paltz, NY – Oct. 18, 2014) The Morrisville State College field hockey team suffered a 10-0 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) defeat Saturday afternoon to host SUNY New Paltz.
The loss drops the Mustangs to 2-11 overall and 0-5 in conference action, as they wrap up SUNYAC play Tuesday hosting SUNY Oneonta.
Justine O’Reilly and Sam Eberle led the Hawk efforts with a combined seven goals. Dani Ackerman posted two scores, including the first of the day 14:21 into the contest.
Kaitlyn Baker (VanEtten, N.Y.) registered 16 saves in the loss in 64 minutes of play, before being relieved by Erin Brown (Cragsmoor, N.Y.) for the final six. Brown recorded three saves and allowed one score.
Rowan dominates Mustangs for NJAC win

(Glassboro, NJ – Oct. 18, 2014) Host Rowan University held visiting Morrisville State to a season low 227 yards total offense Saturday afternoon, and kept the high scoring offensive unit out of the end zone as they racked up 464 yards offense in a 31-0 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) victory over the Mustangs in Glassboro.
The loss is the first for Morrisville State within conference play, dropping them to 3-1 in the NJAC and 5-2 overall. Rowan improves to 4-2 and maintains a perfect conference mark at 3-0.
Lemar Johnson (Ossining, N.Y.) went 10-for-31 on the day for just 119 yards passing, with four completions to Anthony Gray (Smallwood, N.Y.) for 54 yards. Johnson led the Mustangs on the ground, adding 58 net yards on 13 carries, as Morrisville State was held to a season low 108 yards in the running game on the day.
Tyler Dunworth (Poestenkill, N.Y.) tied the single game record of longest punt set by himself just a year ago, booting a total of seven for a combined 295 yards (42.1 average), including one that sailed 78 yards.
Defensively, Shane Carroll (Morrisville, N.Y.) led the Mustang efforts registering a total 10 tackles on the day, including five solo stops, while teammates Colton Evans (West Winfield, N.Y.) and Julian Serrano (Bronx, N.Y.) each contributed nine.
Wither Marcelin led the Profs offensively with a 228 yard gain in 36 attempts in the running game for two touchdown scores, as quarterback Bill McCarty completed 9-of-14 pass attempts for 72 yards.
Darren Dungee registered 11 total stops to lead the defensive unit for Rowan.
Both teams were scoreless until 2:32 to go in the first when Morrisville State committed the first of four turnovers on the day, a fumble that was recovered by Rowan’s Jared Sanchez and returned 15 yards for a defensive score.
Rowan was able to get the offensive unit moving in the second quarter, posting a score with under 10 to go as Marcelin capped off the 98-yard, 10-play drive with a seven yard rushing score. Tyler Knighton added a 23 yard field goal minutes to go before the half, extending the hosts lead to 17-0 at the break.
In the third, Rowan extended the lead to 24-0 with a 13-yard scoring run by Marcelin with three minutes to go, before adding their final touchdown of the day1:05 into the fourth quarter on a Jahsiem Rover 12-yard run into the end zone.
Morrisville State will look to rebound in a week, returning to the field Saturday as they travel to the southernmost NJAC member, Southern Virginia for a noon kick-off.
Morrisville State golf 9th at Rutgers Camden Invitational

(Morrisville, NY – Oct. 18, 2014) The Morrisville State College men’s golf team finished ninth overall among 17 teams Friday afternoon, shooting a team total 337 strokes on the Pennsauken Country Club par-70, 6,250 yard course in Pennsauken, New Jersey.
Messiah College won the invitational with a team score of 304 strokes, while a total six strokes separated teams that finished in 5th through 9th positions, respectively.
Darren Young (Woodstock, N.Y.) finished nine over par on the course, tying for 14thoverall in the field of 87, while teammate Brandon Davis (Manlius, N.Y.) shot a 85 to finish tied for 34th.
Layne Martin (Findlay, Ohio) finished one stroke behind Davis and tied for 38th, while Zac McMichael (Bancroft, Ontario) and Zach Baker (Denver, Colo.) rounded out team scoring for the Mustangs as the fourth and fifth finishers, respectively.
Morrisville State wrapped up the fall schedule and will return to the fairways in the spring.
Morrisville State volleyball finishes strong in NEAC crossover weekend

(Morrisville, NY – Oct. 18, 2014) The Morrisville State College women’s volleyball (7-18, 5-7 NEAC) traveled to Lancaster Bible for their final NEAC crossover weekend. Friday night they opened up play with host Lancaster Bible and Saturday they faced St. Elizabeth and Penn- St. Abington.
The first match of the day was against host Lancaster Bible, with the Chargers winning each set 25,-19, followed by 25-16 and finishing the match 25-12. Erika Bailey (Newark, Valley, N.Y.) finished the match with 9 assists, 3 kill and 4 digs. Kylie Murphy (Nichols, N.Y.) led the team with 9 digs, followed closely by Lindsey Easterly (Cazenovia, N.Y.) with 8 digs. Tiffany Jones- Maxwell (Hamilton, N.Y.), Bailey, and Brandy Ehrenschneider (Olmsted Falls, O.H.) each contributed three kills for the match.
The Mustangs faced the St. Elizabeth in the first match on Saturday. The Mustangs took the sets in a convincing win 25-15, 25-14, and 25-19. Bailey produced 13 assists with Maxwell-Jones contributing 8 kills. Coutrny LaVere (Oswego, N.Y.) also added five kills and 3 digs for the game. Murphy led the team with 9 digs.
The final match of the day proved to be the best the closest of the three for the Mustangs. After losing the first two sets 27-25, and 25-15, Morrisville fought back and won the third set 25-17. The fourth was a dominate win by the Mustangs 25-17 and send the match into the fifth and final set. The Mustangs were victorious winning 15-10. Bailey produced 26 assists, 3 digs and 4 kills. Both Jessica Chandler (Morrisville, N.Y.) and Alison Brockway (Westmoreland, N.Y.) led the Mustangs with 7 kills each for the match. Murphy led the way with 18 digs, Mary Stetson adding 17 digs, and Easterly not far behind adding 14 digs for the match.
The Mustangs return to action Saturday, October 25th against Keuka College.
