(Morrisville, NY – Oct. 27, 2014) The Morrisville State College men’s soccer team completed the 2014 regular season with an astonishing 14-2 overall record, boasting a 9-1 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) stint, claiming the regular season title as they finished atop the regular season conference standings.
The Mustangs wrapped up a stellar home slate on Wednesday against SUNYIT to finish the season with a perfect 10-0 home record.
Morrisville State earned the top seed in the five-team conference tournament and will play host to the semi-final and championship rounds scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 8 and Sunday, Nov. 9.
The Mustangs will face the winner of #4 Wells College (11-5-1, 7-3) and #5 Penn St. Abington (4-7-4, 4-3-3) on Nov. 8th at 11:30 a.m. in the first round of the semifinals.
Wells and Abington are set to face-off on Saturday, Nov. 1st at 2 p.m. in Wells. Morrisville State defeated Wells College 1-0 in early October, and defeated Penn St. Abington 3-0 in late September. Both games were played on the Mustangs home turf.
Second seeded Lancaster Bible College (11-5-1, 7-2-1) will face #3 Keuka (11-4-1, 7-2-1) at 2 p.m. in the second of the semis. Lancaster Bible defeated Keuka 3-1 on Saturday to earn the second overall spot in the tournament.
Winners of both semi-finals will advance to the championship game held Sunday at 2 p.m. on Drake Field in Morrisville.
Morrisville State has outscored opponents a total 59-11 this season, and hold seven top 22 rankings in all of Division III as of last week’s rankings. They rank 20th in assists per game (2.27), 9th in points per game (8.53), 11th in scoring offense (3.13), 22nd in total assists (34), 13th in goals scored (47), 15th in points (128) and 10th in win-loss percentage (.867).
The regular season title is the first for the Mustangs. The 2014 season will mark their third straight tournament appearance, claiming the tournament title in 2012 and their first bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
