Bill Magee

Bill Magee (Jan. 21, 2015) Assemblyman Bill Magee (D-Nelson) recently wrote the superintendents of the 24 school districts he represents to voice his support for repealing the “harmful” Gap Elimination Adjustment (GEA) and request their feedback and input as the state works to build its 2015-16 budget.

“Ensuring our children get the best education possible from pre-K to college is vital to keeping our community strong,” said Magee. “I want to hear from the schools directly about their specific needs for funding, and I want to know what the state can do to best serve our students. We need to listen to our local school districts to see if they have thoughts on ways the state can reduce mandates and red tape.”

Magee’s door is always open. Superintendents, teachers, parents, employees and others with concerns about education are encouraged to reach out to his office with their suggestions and concerns. The input will be used to help work toward policies that will benefit local school districts, Magee noted.

In his letter, Magee stated that he would start by continuing to fight for the complete repeal of the GEA to ensure that schools receive the funding they need to provide a quality education to all students, without overburdening property taxpayers.

“If we are going to get education policies right in this state and ensure that our kids are getting the best education possible, we have to involve the people who are on the frontlines,” said Magee.
