To the Editor:
(Hamilton, NY – Jan. 2015) The Hamilton Friends Meeting (Quakers) are grateful that Colgate University has welcomed us back to our original home at Chapel House. Our Meeting started its life in the nurturing setting of Chapel House. We moved to an old Quaker meeting house in Smyrna in the 1980’s, and recently returned home to Chapel House at Colgate’s invitation.
Chapel House, an on-campus meditation and retreat center, provides opportunities for reflection, building community, and the celebration of religious diversity. In the past year our meeting has grown; with students, faculty, and members of the local and wider community joining us in community service projects and in our weekly worship hour.
Our thanks to Colgate University for cultivating and cherishing a special and unique oasis that feeds the spiritual life of its students, staff and the surrounding local community. We look forward to working and worshiping together with the spirit-led community at Chapel House for many years to come.
Gratefully,
Hamilton Friends Meeting (Quakers)
