Chittenango Landing Sawmill(Chittenango, NY – Feb. 2015) Christine O’Neil, Executive Director of Chittenango Landing Canal Boat Museum, is pleased announce the receipt of a Get Set Grant of $2,999 to retain the help of a museum consultant. The Chittenango Landing Canal Boat Museum will secure the services of Anne Ackerson to assist in organizational development and strategic planning. The Get Set Grant, from the New York Council on the Arts, is administered by the Museum Association of New York.

Ackerson has served as director of several historic house museums and historical societies in New York, the director of the Museum Association of New York, and now currently serves as the executive director of the national Council of State Archivists. She currently works as an independent consultant focusing on organizational development issues for the smaller nonprofit cultural institution.

Ackerson writes regularly about management and leadership issues for cultural institutions in her blog, Leading by Design. She is the co-author of a new book on history museum leadership for the 21st century titled Leadership Matters, which is published by AltaMira Press as part of the American Association for State and Local History series.

Ackerson is co-writing a book on women workers in museums, which will be published by Left Coast Press in 2016. Her work with Chittenango Landing Canal Boat Museum will help the organization re-examine its mission-based priorities, operational infrastructure and strategic planning.

The Chittenango Landing Canal Boat Museum is an Erie Canalway Heritage Award-Winning site on the Historic Erie Canal at 717 Lakeport Road, Chittenango, The site is open seasonally May-October and by appointment.
