(Clinton, NY – Feb. 2015) In addition to pursing a degree in intelligence and homeland security from the Community College of Rhode Island, Clinton native Steven Mozloom is serving as a hospital corpsman in the United States Navy Reserve.

A 2010 graduate of Clinton High School, Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class Steven Mozloom enlisted in the active duty component of the Navy in 2011, in the hopes of becoming an explosive ordnance disposal technician. What he found instead was an opportunity to travel and train within the medical field as a Navy reservist.

“I was unaware at the time that I was joining the Navy Reserve, but part of the joy of the Navy is that you learn to adapt and overcome,” said Mozloom. “I have had the opportunity to travel the world and the United States. I have met countless people, some who are like me and others who are very different from me. Each of these encounters has taught me a valuable lesson.”

Currently assigned in a full-time support role at Navy Operational Support Center Newport, Rhode Island, Mozloom has wasted very little time in making the most of his Reserve career; he already has a six-month deployment under his belt, and in September he received his fourth promotion.

“I have benefitted from my time in the Navy Reserve in countless ways,” said Mozloom. “I have developed skills that are intellectually and physically laborious and have been taught how to deal with stressful situations and to operate in diverse social climates.”

Its sailors like Mozloom that make Vice Adm. Robin Braun, chief of the Navy Reserve, proud to serve as the leader of such a talented and dedicated group of Sailors.

“The commitment of our talented Sailors to the Navy, their shipmates and their community is truly inspirational,” said Braun. “Their continued dedicated service in support of the Navy, Marine Corps and Joint Force lends credence to our motto: ‘Ready Now. Anytime, Anywhere.’”

March 3 marks 100 years of the U.S. Navy Reserve. Throughout the year, Navy Reserve units will be celebrating the accomplishments of Reserve sailors past and present.
