lorenzo-historic(Cazenovia – NY – March 2015) In marking a distinguished 40th year of achievement, President Suzanne Munger and the trustees of The Friends of Lorenzo will be hosting the 40th Annual Meeting of the Friends of Lorenzo at 6 p.m. on Tuesday March 24 at the Lincklaen House in Cazenovia.

Since its inception in 1975, The Friends of Lorenzo has served as an all-volunteer organization dedicated to the ongoing support of Lorenzo State Historic Site. Through membership commitment and a variety of fundraising activities, The Friends have enabled Lorenzo to undertake many preservation and interpretive initiatives over the last four decades.

Lorenzo was acquired by New York State in 1968 and is administered by the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation as one of 35 statewide historic facilities. Each year, The Friends sponsor numerous educational programs and special events, both on site and in conjunction with other area organizations.

Some of the upcoming events made possible by The Friends include: a celebration of Historic Preservation Month this May with a presentation by the Sacred Sites program based in New York City;  the annual Garden Gala, set in the Ellen Shipman garden on June 18; and the Rippleton Schoolhouse summer day camp in July, Portals to the Past.

The evening’s celebration will begin with a brief business meeting and a recap of the year’s activities including: support of special events including Christmas at Lorenzo, the Lorenzo Driving Competition, the Symphoria summer concert and a Red House Arts production; making advertising possible with several CNY media outlets; sponsorship of educational programming; custom reproduction underwriting; and garden and landscape maintenance. Attendees will then be treated to a dynamic presentation, “A Digital 3-D Glimpse of Late 19th Century Cazenovia” by Village Trustee and avid collector of historic images, Dave Porter.

The Friends of Lorenzo cordially invite all members and the public to attend their annual meeting at 6 p.m. on March 24 at the Lincklaen House, 79 Albany Street.

Refreshments will be served.

As space is limited, please RSVP by contacting Jane Mistur at (315) 436-6809.
