(Cazenovia, NY – March 2015) The Cazenovia Village Tree Commission will present two upcoming events this spring in its Sixth Annual 2015 Educational Program.

The first event will be a free presentation on: The Future of American Forests by Eric J. Greenfield, PhD, Forester for the USDA Forest Service.

Dr. Greenfield has researched and written extensively about forest ecosystems, environmental quality, and the impact of human factors on forests. His latest publications focus on Urban and Community Forests throughout geographic areas in the United States.

This presentation will include a discussion of potential forest impacts from both natural and anthropogenic forces through several modeled future scenarios. Find out what you can do and encourage to be done to protect and preserve the health and future of American forests.

Questions and Discussion will follow the Presentation.

People attending the Future of American Forests event will be offered the chance to have their name drawn for a tree to be planted in Lakeland Park, either as a memorial or in their own name.  The Presentation and Tree Drawing will take place on Saturday, March 21 from 10 a.m. to noon in the Community Room of the Cazenovia Public Library.

The Commissions 2015 Arbor Day celebration will take place on Saturday April 18 at 9:30 a.m. in Lakeland Park (Route 20/Forman Street in Cazenovia).

The Tree Commission’s Celebration will include planting of a special tree at Lakeland Park with participation by the middle school Earth Club. The Burton Street School singers, under the direction of Tori Johnson, will serenade us.

Please look for future programs sponsored by The Tree Commission. Ideas, topics, and speaker talent suggestions are always welcome.
