Burke Nabs Second Patriot Weekly Honor

Sophomore Named Goalkeeper of the Week After 12-Save Performance at Loyola

(Hamilton, NY – March 2015) Colgate’s Brandon Burke picked up his second Corvias Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week award Monday.

Burke and the Colgate defense held No. 15/16 Loyola to its lowest scoring total by half in an 11-4  road victory. The Greyhounds previous lowest scoring output of the season was eight, but they had a tough time finding the mark as Burke recorded 12 saves and posted a .750 save percentage.

“Our offense was putting the ball in the back of the net early in that game, which really helped our defense out,” Burke said. “And we held the (Loyola) shots to the outside, which allowed me to see the ball.”

The save total for Burke was the second best of his career. He had 16 in a March 17 overtime loss at No. 7 Cornell. With 35 saves in the past three games, the reigning Patriot League Rookie of the Year has dropped his goals-against average to 8.21 and raised his save percentage to .543.

He appears to have recovered from a leg injury he suffered Feb. 28 at Bucknell.

“I’m getting better each day,” Burke said. “I’m working hard in the weight room and in practice, and trying to get better.”
