(Hamilton, NY – April 2015) The Chenango Canal Association (CCA) hosts a spring kick-off for outdoor family fun on May 2; a 5K Trail Fun Run & Walk as part of the Route 20 Road Challenge Series for 2015.

The Run/Walk begins at the Hamilton Municipal Airport parking lot at 6610 Wings Way (off of Route 12B) at 10 a.m. Walkers begin at 10:30. Children under 5 are free. Pets on a leash are welcome.

There will be a $100 gift certificate awarded from the Hamilton Eatery for the best costume for individuals, groups or pets. Three medals for first, second and third are awarded for best time for Men, Women and Children categories. Walkers will receive a walker’s pin for completing the 5K portion of the trail. Door prizes from some of the sponsors will be drawn after the run and walk.

Rain or shine, the run/walk winds down the abandoned railroad bed, a short distance along Woodman Road, then south along the Chenango Canal Towpath Trail to a point near the start where you are clocked for the 5K distance. You can continue to the starting point which is at the 6K mark.

The first 50 registrants to show will get a T Shirt, courtesy of Screen It and COVE at Colgate University. The Dr. Pepper/Snapple Group is donating Motts drinks and water is courtesy of Kinney Drugs.

The Trail Fun Run is a fundraiser to help complete the CCA’s educational portion of History On the Summit. This program includes an educational program for schools to visit the Towpath Trail and 36 vintage photos displayed at the newly renovated Chenango Canal Cottage Museum. An audio self-tour at 17 stops along the trail allows the visitor to use their smart phone to scan a QR code on a posted sign to access a dedicated web page and recording about the spot where they are standing.

To register, please go to www.chenangocanal.org or www.nyroute20.com.

New registrants are welcome to sign up at the run starting at 9 a.m. The cost is $10 per person; children under 5 are free.
