(Cazenovia, NY – April 2015) The following programs will be held at the Cazenovia Public Library.
Film—Lyme Disease: A Silent Epidemic
Wednesday, April 29 at 2 and 7 p.m.
In this documentary, Chantal Perrin, a documentary filmmaker from France, tells the story of how people across the world are getting sick and how our health care systems continue to deny the existence of this growing medical threat, leading to widespread suffering and disability.
This film highlights the politics of Lyme disease, the unreliability of testing, the rapidly spreading and multi-systemic nature of tick-borne illness, and how worldwide research is being hampered by social-political economic challenges. Made clear is that patients are suffering as the scientific community battles about the etiology and treatment of this disease, and that “we rapidly need to come to a clear scientific consensus, not a consensus of denial.”
Taking no sides, Lyme Disease: A Silent Epidemic explores the hidden side of this issue. 53 minutes.
Presentation—The Transgenerational House: Answering the Challenge with James Pirkl
Thursday, April 30 at 7 p.m.
According to local resident James Pirkl, professor emeritus and past chairman of Syracuse University’s department of design, “time and circumstances reshape one’s expectations and priorities.” In this presentation, Pirkl, will describe how and why he designed and built the first fully accessible “transgenerational house,” aimed directly at accommodating aging Baby Boomers and beyond.
This unique project sparks and promotes consumer awareness of—and increasing demand for—transgenerational housing and household products. Its range of innovative design solutions neutralizes the restrictive effects of aging, accidents, illness, and chronic conditions for people of all ages and abilities.
It also demonstrates that attractive transgenerational housing can provide and extend independent living, remove barriers, offer wider options, supply greater choices, and enhance the quality of life for all—the young, the old, the able, the disabled—without penalty to any group.
All events will be held in the Library Community Room, and, as always, there’s free popcorn at the movies.
These events are free and open to the public.
