(Oneida, NY- May 2015) At the Oneida Public Library on Tuesday May 12 at 6:30 p.m., members of the Syracuse VA Medical Center’s Suicide Prevention team will be providing the latest information about the dramatic rise in suicides, especially among U.S. military personnel and veterans, and offering helpful advice to family and friends concerned about their loved ones.
The Veterans Administration points out that, according to the Centers for Disease Control, suicide is the tenth leading cause of death in the United States, while U.S. veterans are twice as likely to kill themselves as the general population.
Members of the VA team, led by Sabah Altheblah, will focus on the signs and symptoms of the potential suicide and the help that is available in Central New York.
The program is free and open to the public.
