(Chittenango, NY – May 2015) Lauded for their loyal support and commitment and dedication to the American Legion, four members of the Chittenango William H. Cain Post 1287 were recognized recently for their collective 280 years of service.
Presenting the awards were Post Commander Lyle Stedman and Jim Gooley, Past Post Commander.
Robert Perkins, World War II veteran, joined the organization in 1945 upon his return from active duty. At that same time, his wife, Betty, became a member of Auxiliary Unit 1287.
William C. Mayers and Robert C. Mayers, identical twins born 20 minutes apart, left school together to enlist in the U.S. Navy during World War II and later joined Post 1287 together 70 years ago. Bill has served as the Historian of the organization.
