(Wampsville, NY – June 2015) Madison County Highway Department Superintendent Joseph Wisinski advises that the traffic bridge located over the CSX Railroad tracks on North Court Street in Wampsville will be closed to all traffic beginning Monday morning, June 15.
The closure is expected to take place at 9 a.m. The bridge is scheduled to remain closed to all traffic for a period of approximately six months during the bridge replacement project and associated roadwork that will be required.
North Court Street will be closed to all traffic (except local traffic) at the corner of West Elm Street and North Court Street (south of the bridge) and at Canal Road and North Court Street (north of the bridge). Superintendent Wisinski states “they will be placing detour route signs for motorists who are not familiar with the area.”
Madison County Sheriff Allen Riley said that “this bridge accommodates approximately 5,000 vehicles per day, so the closure will have a definite impact on daily commutes, deliveries, and through traffic. The greatest impact will be on State Route 5 and Canal Road between the city of Oneida and village of Canastota. We want to ensure the public is aware of this project and to plan now for alternate routes during the bridge replacement project. Residents living on North Court Street and the adjacent side streets in the area of the closure will be allowed to maintain access to their homes as normal, but must be aware of the work zone conditions and be mindful of heavy equipment and workers in the area. The same will apply to businesses located in the area.”
The Sheriff is asking all motorists to plan ahead for this closure by taking the time in advance of June 15 to find alternate routes of travel. During the project, traffic patterns on Route 5 and
Canal Road, between the villages of Wampsville and Canastota, will see increased traffic volume; motorists are urged to allow for additional travel time.
“Law enforcement, fire departments and emergency medical services are aware of the closure and have alternate operational plans in place to ensure public safety during the bridge project,” Riley said.
