(Cazenovia, NY – June 2015) Illion native and Cazenovia College sophomore Shelby McIntyre was awarded the Wildcats top honor at this year’s Athletics reception earning the college’s Female Athlete of the Year.
McIntyre, the Wildcats top cross country runner, capped off a record-breaking season back in October of 2014 becoming the first runner, male or female in Cazenovia history to break the 19:00 minute mark while also placing first at the North Eastern Athletic Conference Championships, earning conference Runner of the Year Honors.
On the heels of a concentrated effort to increase school pride in 13-14, the Cazenovia College Department of Athletics continued to set new standards of excellence both on and off the field this past season. The Wildcats turned in 81 all-conference selections in 2014-2015 while maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher for both the fall and spring semesters. Cazenovia College student-athletes were named “North Eastern Athletic Conference Player of the Week” 15 times, with three individuals, including McIntyre earning conference “Player of the Year” honors in their respective sport. McIntyre also set the college’s fastest 5k time in a race last season, finishing the course in 18 minutes and 55 seconds.
