(Madison County, NY – June 23, 2015) The members of the Madison County Farm Bureau are proud to be part of the communities they live and work in and recently have had the opportunity to show their pride by participating in three popular parades.
The farm families that make up the county Farm Bureau work hard to contribute to the well-being of their neighborhoods. They not only impact the overall economic well-being of Madison County, but they work hard to cultivate relationships and provide enriching opportunities for local residents. By being part of these community events, they get to reconnect with old friends while meeting many new people who may never have had a personal connection with a farmer.
In May, the Farm Bureau float made its debut in the Canastota Memorial Day Parade. This was especially meaningful for the members that took part. It was a chance to recognize the brave men and women that have sacrificed so much for our freedom. There is a strong connection between farmers and veterans. Many local farmers have served their country and have returned back to the farm while more veterans are now engaging in agricultural work after leaving the military, providing them a viable sustainable career.”It was an honor to be included in the parade and ceremony and it allowed us to pay tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice,” said Madison County Farm Bureau President Nate Durfee.
The Farm Bureau float made another appearance in June to celebrate Chittenango’s home town treasure L. Frank Baum at the Oz-Stravaganza! Parade. “Being engaged in our communities is something we take great pride in,” said Durfee. “It is important to be able to show that our farmers are active in their neighborhoods and it enables us to create a better understanding of what we do and why we do it.”
And most recently, the Farm Bureau float was part of the International Boxing Hall of Fame’s Parade of Champions. It brought an exciting opportunity to showcase local pride to a larger audience with many out of town guests and celebrities descending on Canastota as part of Induction Weekend.
Durfee noted that Madison County residents can expect to see us out and about and encourages people interested in learning more or finding out about promotional or educational activities held by Farm Bureau to visit their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/pages/Madison-County-Farm-Bureau/440145099380782.
