(Oneida, NY – June 2015) There will be an informational meeting regarding the design development of the 3.9 mile section of the Oneida Rail Trail on Tuesday June 30 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Kallet Civic Center, 159 Main St. in Oneida.
The city of Oneida was awarded funding in 2014 and 2015 to develop the 3.9 miles under NYS DOT TEP/TAP applications. The proposed 3.1 mile ADA accessible multi-modal trail segment of the Oneida Rail Trail will connect the village of Wampsville to the city of Oneida utilizing a portion of the West Shore Railbed and the New York Central Railbed. The segment will link the state’s Old Erie Canal Towpath Trail to Oneida at N. Willow Street. This section was awarded under the TEP funding.
The 0.8 trail segment picks up at N. Willow Street continuing along the NY Central Railbed and traverses into the heart of downtown Oneida ending at N. Lake Street. This highly visible section of the ORT has proposed improvements including complete street design concepts. Design features include a protected bike lane with bump outs, pedestrian plaza, street trees and energy efficient lighting. This section was awarded under the TAP funding.
C & S Companies, hired to design these two sections of the ORT, will be on hand along with members of the Oneida Rail Trail Committee. The purpose of the meeting is to give the public an opportunity to give their input as to the design outcome of the Oneida Rail Trail project. There will be informational handouts and drawings of the proposed sections.
Work is scheduled to begin the summer of 2016.
