(Wampsville, NY – Aug. 10, 2015) Public notice is hereby made that a local State of Emergency was declared today due to the imminent threat to public health posed by the presence of mosquito borne Eastern Equine Encephalitis and West Nile Virus based on current mosquito activity detected in Madison County in the town of Sullivan, south of Route 31 and Oneida Lake.
Weather permitting, Madison County Health Department may conduct spraying as early as Thursday this week, however a spray date has not yet been finalized and may change based on weather or other factors.
In the event of inclement weather, spraying will take place on the next appropriate day. The spraying date and information will be announced to the public through the news media, by phone calls to the landlines in affected areas using the NY-Alert system, and on the Madison County Health Department website www.healthymadisoncounty.org.
The pesticide application will take place according to state Department of Environmental Conservation and state Department of Health guidelines. The material to be used will be Kontrol 30-30, manufactured by Univar.
