eat_wellEvent Moves to Larger Venue

(Oneida, NY – Aug. 2015) Where can you play fun games like bean bag tosses, Bocce Ball, hula hoop and run an obstacle course, plant vegetable seeds and do a craft project?  At “Eat Well Play Hard Family Fun Day” on Friday Aug.14 at Vet’s Field, N. Main Street in Oneida.

Families are encouraged to attend the free event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., rain or shine.

“The county health department did a great job with this event for many years but, due to some changes, were not able to continue the program,” said Terri Welcher, Oneida Healthcare’s Director of Volunteer Services.  “It’s a good fit for our community wellness objectives to promote the importance of healthy eating and active lifestyles so we (Oneida Healthcare) decided to take on the planning and coordination.”

Welcher said that the goal is to help parents and children learn simple things they can do together to lead healthier lives and there will be plenty of information on fun activities and healthy food choices.

There will also be a farmers market with fresh local vegetables and fruit for sale and, as an added bonus, the first 100 families who visit United Healthcare’s table will receive a coupon for a free bag of produce at the Stone Brothers Farm stand.

Fidelis Care has also come on board as a new sponsor of the event.

Welcher noted that the move from Allen Park to Vet’s Field will provide a larger and easily accessible venue for the expanded number of participating organizations and hundreds of families expected to attend.
