(Canastota, NY – Sept. 2015) October is traditionally a very busy month at the library.  This year is no different for us. This month, we’ve got our Annual Friends of the Library Book Sale, our children and teen programs are starting and we’ve added in some special programs for your enjoyment.  We hope that you get in to see us at the library this month.

The Friends of the Canastota Public Library will hold the annual sale at the end of the month.  The sale will be held in the lower level of the library on the following days:  Thursday, Oct. 29 from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.; Friday Oct. 30 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday Oct. 31 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Friends have a nice variety of gently used books in all genres, books on CD, DVDs, VHS movies, music CDs and much more for this sale.  As always, these items are priced very reasonably.

Our regular children’s programming begins again this month.  Baby & Me Lapsit with Miss Angela will be held each Wednesday morning beginning at 10am from Oct. 7 through Dec. 16.  This is for babies, up to age 24 months and their caregivers.

Storytime with Mrs. Liz will begin on Thursdays in October.  Preschoolers will enjoy read-aloud stories, games, crafts and a snack.  The fun begins at 10 a.m. in the Children’s Area.  Storytime will run from Oct. 8 through Dec. 17.

For teens, our Anime/Manga group begins again on Friday, Oct. 9 at 3:30 p.m.  This group watches anime, reads manga and enjoys related activities.  The group is open to students in grades 6 and up.

If you love baseball, you’ll want to be at the library on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. for “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” with Vince Doty.  We’ll open with a little Ernest Thayer, then we’ll talk about Works Series history, baseball card history and some of the greatest players of the game. We’ll also have Cracker Jacks.

The library will be holding an Artist’s Reception on Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. for our Artists of the Month, Maria and John Seely.  This couple looks at subjects in very different ways.  Maria is an abstract artist who is constantly exploring new materials and techniques to create while her husband John relies on realistic interpretation of what the eye sees.  Join these two artists, who happen to be husband and wife for their Artist’s Reception.  Meet them and see their wonderful artistic expressions.

Most of these programs are in the first two weeks of October.  There will be more to come.  We hope to see you at the Canastota Public Library.

The Canastota Public Library is located at 102 W. Center St. in Canastota.
