(Chittenango, NY – Oct. 2015) The Chittenango CROP Hunger Walk will be held Oct. 18. Registration will take place at 1 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Parking is available behind the church, in the Village Parking Lot and behind the library.
The Chittenango CROP Hunger Walk, which is sponsored by the Chittenango Area Council of Churches, hopes to raise enough money to not only help stop hunger and poverty in the Chittenango community, but around the world, through self-help initiatives. A portion of the funds raised in Chittenango will go to the Sullivan Food Pantry. The rest will support the international work of Church World Service.
This year Chittenango and some 2,000 cities and towns nationwide are joining together in interfaith community CROP Hunger Walks around the theme “Ending hunger one step at a time.” Many of the CROP Walkers will be wearing T-shirts, proclaiming their solidarity with the millions of neighbors around the world who have to walk to live — as well as with the millions served by local food pantries, food banks, and meal sites here in the U.S. These local ministries share in the funds raised by CROP Hunger Walks.
Worldwide CROP Hunger Walks are teaching sustainable ways to grow food and providing additional sources of food and income to families facing extreme challenges.
CROP Hunger Walks also play a role in the U.S., helping communities ravaged by floods and tornadoes to recover.
