(Oneida, NY – Oct. 2015) Twenty one middle and high school students from throughout the Greater Oneida area recently completed an eight-month confirmation journey and were formally confirmed as members of the First Presbyterian Church of Oneida.
Each student was assigned an adult mentor to help them through their faith journey. Students took part in an in depth study of the Gospel of Luke while also studying the sacraments, polity, church and history. Each student also wrote their own Statement of Faith.
During the process each student was also required to do a community service project. Some of the projects involved collecting food and personal hygiene items for several area food banks, organizing a dance and basket raffle for a local cancer victim, helping to do cleanup work at the church, volunteering at Vanderkamp, and assisting elderly members with household projects.
Students also spent several Sundays visiting with residents at the Oneida Healthcare Extended Care facility.
Prior to being confirmed students and their mentors spent a day together at a retreat at Vanderkamp that built on the faith and bonded the group together with fun competitions.
The First Presbyterian Church of Oneida is located at the Corner of Broad and Stone Streets in Oneida and hosts many youth ministry programs for area teens.
