(Canastota, NY – Nov. 2015) One of our favorite events of the year happens in November. It is our Children’s Doll Tea Party. This year will be our third annual Doll & Tea Party at the Library. We’ll be gathering on Saturday, Nov.14 from noon until 2 p.m. to enjoy tea, punch, cookies and fun with our favorite dolls. Everyone comes dressed in their nicest finery and we have crafts and activities for everyone who attends.
Reservations and pre-payment will be necessary for this event as space is always limited. The cost to attend is $2.50 per person. Please visit the library in person to reserve space for you and your child. No telephone reservations will be accepted and children must be accompanied with an adult during this afternoon tea. This program is geared towards children ages 5 – 12 with an adult.
In the art department, in addition to our Canastota Creates and Tangles Club meetings, we have art scheduled for the Lawson Room, a special craft night with Mindy and leather crafts on sale for the holidays. The Canastota Creates group meets on the
The Featured Artists in our Lawson Community Room for the months of November are the Swamp Snappers. The Swamp Snappers are the Great Swamp Conservancy’s photography group. Their beautiful photographs of wildlife, flowers and landscapes will also be available for sale during the duration of their exhibit. These photographs make great holiday gift items for those who love the outdoors. A reception for the Swamp Snappers will be held on Monday, November 9 at 7pm.
Come and decorate ceramic tiles with us on Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. Mindy Snyder will host this event where you can use acrylics, markers, colored pencils, glitter pens and watercolors. The ceramic tiles are stamped with designs and have a unique absorbing surface that allows for fast, yourself and your creativity. Please sign up at the library.
Our display cases on the first floor will hold creations of beautifully hand-made leather purses as well as jewelry and more. The creations are made by Shirley Thomas and Sandy Ziegler. These crafts will be available for purchase from the display cases through December.
Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, we generally do not hold a Book Chat during November. However, our December meeting is held early in December. This year’s December meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 1 at 1 p.m. in the Carnegie Room on the second floor of the library. The book the group will read for this meeting is “From Here to Eternity” by James Jones. Set in the summer and autumn of 1941 at the Schofield in Barracks in Hawaii, the story follows several members of G Company, including Captain Dana “Dynamite” Holmes and Frist Sergeant Milt Warden. The book will be available in early November if you’d like to read and discuss the book with our Book Chat.
The library staff wants to wish all of our patrons a very Happy Thanksgiving. The library will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 26 and Friday, Nov. 27 for Thanksgiving. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you. We will reopen on Saturday, November 28 at 10am.
We hope you’ll stop in to see us…anytime. The Canastota Public Library is located at 102 W. Center Street in Canastota. For more information, call 315.697.7030.
