Meth Lab 1215 1Issued by John Ball, Madison County Undersheriff

(Town of Lenox, Canastota, NY – Dec. 2, 2015)  Madison County Sheriff’s Narcotics Investigators, acting on several tips of possible meth production taking place, shut down a meth lab late last night on Seneca Turnpike (Route 5), just west of the village of Canastota in the Madison County Town of Lenox.  The investigation had been underway for the past three months.

Undercover investigators had the residence, located at 2957 State Route 5 in Canastota under surveillance late yesterday evening when they witnessed two small explosions in a back yard fire-pit of the residence.  They immediately responded into the driveway of the residence. Subjects are being interviewed by Sheriff’s Investigators.

Sheriff’s Office investigators, deputies and evidence technicians, in addition to the State Police Contaminated Crime Scene Emergency Response Team (CCSERT) remained on the scene until late this afternoon processing the lab and making the area safe.

Sheriff Allen Riley termed the lab to be “a substantial operation.”

In addition to Sheriff’s Investigators, Deputies and the State Police, Canastota Fire Department, Greater Lenox Ambulance Service, Madison County Public Health Department, the State Department of Environmental Conservation and the Town of Lenox Codes Enforcement Office assisted.

The investigation will be continuing throughout the remainder of today.
