(Dec. 17, 2015) Michael Kennedy, a member of Sylvan Beach Flotilla 26, has been elected commander of Central New York Coast Guard Auxiliary Division 2. He takes office Jan. 1 and is a member of Sylvan Beach Flotilla 26.
Elected Vice Division Commander was Robert F. Shanahan Sr., commander of Brewerton Flotilla 2-14.
They will serve one-year terms. The Central New York Division 2 encompasses five flotillas and an area stretching from Ithaca to Oswego.
Kennedy is former commander of Brewerton Flotilla 2-14 and is qualified as an instructor, personal watercraft operator, coxswain and in Auxiliary Operations.
Born and raised in Camillus, Kennedy has been active in the community, serving as a scoutmaster and as a member of the Camillus Fire Department, including serving as chief. He is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who served in Vietnam and is retired from Time Warner Cable.
Kennedy and his wife, Shirleyanne, reside in Fayetteville, and have three daughters and a son.
