(Jan. 2016) “Women go to work every day in Upstate New York as business owners, farmers, doctors, nurses, police officers, firefighters and teachers. They serve in the military. They coach Little League and soccer teams. They work hard to provide for their families.
“Yet, despite their hard work, women aren’t always treated fairly under the law. Women in New York State earn on average only 84 cents for every dollar men earn. This will change today, with many of the Women’s Equality laws going into effect.
“From requiring equal pay for equal work to ending housing discrimination for victims of domestic violence and enacting new legal protections for women with children trying to get ahead in their careers, these policies will make a real difference in the lives of women and families across New York.
“Today, as we recognize the historic significance of these laws taking effect, I renew my commitment to continue the fight to promote fairness and justice for the women of our state.”
