To the Editor,
On Saturday, February 6, 2016, the Earlville Troop 5 Boy Scouts hosted a Klondike Derby event in Earlville, NY. This was the first time in over 35 years since the Troop had hosted the event. Fifty-five individuals registered for the event and competed for prizes at 8 different skill-building stations. The stations included Kim’s Game, Orienteering, Ice Rescue, Animal Tracks, Winter First Aid, Kodiak Bear Target Shooting, Fire Building, and Shelter Building.
The top awards were given to Oneida Troop 2 for First Place, Munnsville Troop 7 for Second Place, and Cazenovia Troop 18 for Third Place. Though there was no snow for the sleds, the Troops had a great time and there was participation by the following seven Boy Scout Troops:
- Cazenovia Troop 18
- DeRuyter Troop 14
- Earlville Troop 5
- Munnsville Troop 7
- Oneida Troop 2
- Sherburne Troop 66
- Verona Troop 25
The Earlville Ham Radio Group volunteered their time at the event, keeping track of the schedule, making sure each Troop moved from station to station in a timely, organized fashion. In addition, there were over 25 volunteers that assisted in making the event a great success! The Earlville Troop 5 Boy Scouts would like to thank the following for their contributions to the event:
- Earlville Fire Department
- Earlville Ham Radio Group
- Stewart’s Shops of Sherburne
- Gilligan’s of Sherburne
- Golden Artist Colors of New Berlin
