(Madison County, NY – Feb. 2016) The Madison County Farm Bureau has announced that Chelsea Reagan has been named the 2016 New York Farm Bureau Agricultural Youth Scholarship winner from Madison County. She was chosen by the State Promotion and Education Committee among many applicants vying for the scholarship.

Reagan, a senior at Hamilton Central School has been involved with the FFA program for more than six years where she has held various leadership roles, currently serving as Chapter President. She plans on attending Morrisville State College in the fall to further her goal of becoming a nurse.

Through her involvement with FFA, Reagan has gained a deeper understanding of agriculture and the important role it plays in her community. The applicants were asked to answer the essay question, “If you had the chance to change something in your community, what would it be and why?” Chelsea thoughtfully wrote about food insecurity and how agricultural education in schools can be game changer in addressing this issue.

“As Chelsea’s FFA advisor, I have seen a tremendous amount of growth and development,” said Johanna Bossard.  “She is a true leader who has wonderfully tied in what she has learned through her involvement with agriculture to better herself and her community. As the County Farm Bureau Promotion and Education Chair, I have no doubt that our scholarship money will be put to good use.”
