unnamed (3)The Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority announced yesterday that Reaves Dental Practice is the first dental office in Oneida and Herkimer Counties to receive the Authority’s RecycleOne Business Certification.

The RecycleOne Business Certification is an acknowledgment awarded to local businesses that demonstrate environmental leadership when it comes to recycling and waste reduction.

“Reaves Dental Practice is a father and son practice that has been operating in the greater Utica area for almost 40 years and is being recognized for their commitment taking extra steps to reduce our region’s waste stream. Reaves Dental has also developed a comprehensive recycling, solid waste, and energy reduction program in accordance with the Authority’s RecycleOne Business Program Guidelines,” said Emily Albright, authority director of Recycling.

Sustainable efforts include:

 Forming an in-house Green Team.

 Encouraging the use of recyclable containers in the office and implementing energy efficient policies.

 Promotion of responsible and efficient water usage in all areas of work.

 Use of energy efficient appliances and LED light bulbs.

 Installation of motion sensor lighting in areas to save energy.

 Utilizing environmentally-friendly products.

 The donation of items for beneficial use rather than disposal.

 Developing a plan to install solar panels for power.

“Reaves Dental Practice is pleased to participate in this waste reduction and recycling program. Reducing waste and committing to environmental sustainability benefits not only our employees but our community as well. We are proud to become a part of this team,” said Dr. Justin Reaves.

“Reaves Dental Practice is leading the way in environmental stewardship and is well deserving of this certification,” Albright said.

Recycling in the workplace not only helps the environment but can be economically advantageous by allowing for lower costs for waste removal and possible revenues from recycling. The program also encourages social responsibility, positive public response and sustainability.
