Baptist Church SD Miller Burdick 3-2-16 cmOn Saturday, April 16, at 2:30 p.m., Donna Burdick, Smithfield Town Historian, will present The Churches of Smithfield 1806-2016 at the Peterboro United Methodist Church, 5240 Pleasant Valley Road, Peterboro.

Jointly sponsored by the Peterboro Area Historical Society and the Peterboro United Methodist Church, this program on 210 years of history will be an expansion of the Smithfield Churches display board that was exhibited at Madison County Archives Day in 2014 and also displayed at the Madison County Historical Society in 2015.

Photos include churches that no are no longer standing. Burdick has traced the ministers of the various churches around the Town of Smithfield and how long they served. She will conclude with remarks on the 10-year history of the Peterboro Amish Community church.

Donna Dorrance Burdick has collected and studied Peterboro/Smithfield history for more than 60 years and is recognized as an outstanding researcher on town history and genealogy. Burdick is a Registered Town Historian in the State of New York and is the Research Chair for the Madison County Freedom Trail Commission.

Following the program, there will be a spaghetti supper starting at 4 p.m., at the Smithfield Community Center, 5255 Pleasant Valley Road, Peterboro, NY.  The supper is sponsored by the Peterboro United Methodist Church to benefit church outreach.  The cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children.
