Baltimore Woods Nature Center announces programs for families and children scheduled for April 2016 with details listed below.

April 15 Star Party: Mercury Rising! 6-9pm

This will be our best chance to see the planet Mercury, as it will be as high in the western sky after sunset as it ever gets.

Jupiter will be visible, plus a bright moon. While the moon will blot out faint objects, this will be a great night to view the planets! Back-up date April 16th. Recommended for all ages. April 16 The Arrival of Spring 10:30-noon

Is it spring yet?! Nature gives us clues that spring is here if you know what to look for. Join us for a fun-filled hunt for signs that spring has arrived! Or has it? Recommended for all ages. April 23 Earth Day Celebration! 1-4pm

It’s Earth Day! Come on out to Baltimore Woods for a fun and educational event including info booths on home energy, recycling, crafts, guided nature walks, live animal shows, and a special live performance of Dr. Seuss’s The Lorax. April 23 & 24 Weekend Wildflower Walks 2-3pm

Baltimore Woods Nature Center’s premier woodland wildflower garden is a local treasure. Join caretaker Audrey Loewer for a pleasant walk through one of the wonders of spring. Each week new species will bloom, and Audrey will reveal their past and present medicinal and culinary uses. The garden is handicap accessible; please call ahead if you need assistance. April 25-29 Spring Break Camp – Storybook Adventures!

Earth Day Celebration Baltimore WoodsIt’s spring break! Spend a day, or five, exploring the wonders of Baltimore Woods! Each day we’ll enter fabulous worlds of classic storybooks, playing games and finding adventure at every turn. $45/child/day. Register online today! Before and after care are available. Monday – Alice in Wonderland – Mad Tea Party, Human Chess, and the search for the white rabbit!

Tuesday – Little Red Riding Hood – Race against time to find all the cookies and get them to Granny before the Big Bad Wolf gets there first!

Wednesday – Peter Pan – Get trained as a Lost Boy, or a Pirate, then choose sides for the epic battle to save Tigerlily!

Thursday – Thumbelina – Scour the forest to find Thumbelina (and while you’re at it, why not do the Great Log Roll-off?!)

Friday – Robin Hood – Learn all the skills you need to join Robin Hood in his mission to help the poor and defeat greedy Prince John!

April 30 Invasive Plant Control & Garden Clean-up 10am-noon

Spring clean-up at Baltimore Woods! Join us in our ongoing invasive plant control efforts and help our gardeners get the gardens in shape after winter’s rest. Garlic mustard, wintercress and dandelions are beckoning— pesto? a saute of mixed spring greens? Take home the makings for a REAL pasta primavera! Free. May 8 Mother’s Day Garden Tour at Sycamore Hill Gardens

Bring Mom and whole family out for a day of fun at Sycamore Hill Gardens. Stroll through the giant maze, feed the koi fish, enjoy a picnic, and marvel at over 35 acres of lush gardens. Located at 2130 Old Seneca Turnpike, Sycamore Hill Gardens will open to the public from 11am-4pm to benefit Baltimore Woods Nature Center in its mission of environmental stewardship and nature education. July 11 – September 2 Baltimore Woods Adventure Day Camp

Don’t just think spring…think summer! Summer camp at Baltimore Woods will run for eight weeks from July 11 through September 2nd. Imagination unfolds and runs wild at The Woods this summer with age-based day camps for kids ages 4-17.
