National GuardMajor General Patrick A. Murphy, the Adjutant General and Commander of the New York Army National Guard, announces the recent service accomplishment of members of the New York Army National Guard in recognition of their initial commitment to serve community, state and nation.

Pvt. Michael Neidhart from Waterville completed the Army’s rigorous basic combat training and advanced individual training, culminating with a ceremony held March 6 at the Thompson Road Armory in Syracuse to mark start of training with their new unit, 206th Military Police Company.

The ceremony marks their completion of the National Guard Recruit Sustainment Program, a preparatory training program that provides new recruits with training, lessons and skills to excel at their initial military training.

The Soldiers will now embark on their traditional National Guard service to state and nation as part time Citizen Soldiers.

“The New York Army National Guard relies on the contributions of these men and women who enter our ranks to keep our National Guard ready and reliable for serving state missions here at home or for the continuing support to federal missions for our nation around the country and around the world,” Murphy said. These initial accomplishments for enlistment and initial training are the important first milestones of a Citizen Soldier.”

“Each of our 16,000 men and women serving in the Army and Air National Guard has an important role and I’m pleased to recognize this initial achievement of our newest Citizen Soldiers as part of our New York National Guard family.”
