state-police-seal-150x150Morrisville-based state police are investigating a one-car fatal motor vehicle accident that occurred in Smithfield Saturday morning.

At approximately 11:04 a.m. April 9, troopers were dispatched to Oxbow Road near Bennett Road for a report of a one-car rollover motor vehicle accident. The accident investigation determined that Thomas K. Hill, 72, of Peterboro, was traveling southeast on Oxbow Road in a 2008 Honda Civic on Oxbow Road when the vehicle he was operating crossed over the opposite lane and left the north shoulder of the roadway.

The vehicle struck a mailbox and a group of small trees before overturning onto its roof along the shoulder of the road. Hill was extricated from the vehicle by members of the Smithfield Volunteer Fire Department and transported by Greater Lenox Ambulance to Oneida Healthcare.

Hill was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

The investigation continues.
