April 15 nearly 650 members of the Future Business Leaders of America gathered at Rochester’s Riverside Convention Center for their annual State Leadership Conference. Canastota’s High School and Junior High chapters of FBLA sent ten members to the conference. Chapter advisors, Elizabeth Garofalo and Robert Esposito accompanied the chapters. Students participated in general sessions, workshops, competitive events, and served as voting delegates throughout the three-day event.
While at the conference, Canastota senior, Nichole Delaney, completed her term as the state treasurer of New York State FBLA.
Lindsay Bazan, Lindsey Smith, and Rebecca Winchell advanced to the national level by finishing in first place in the Partnership with Business competition. In this competition, they had to submit a 15-page report and present their partnership project to a panel of judges at the state conference. Their project was based on the partnership our chapter has with the Rome Teachers Federal Credit Union. Rebecca Winchell will also be presenting the Local Chapter Annual Business Report as a first place winner at the state level.
At the conference, the Canastota Chapter was recognized as one of the top five outstanding chapters in the state – receiving fourth place recognition for their efforts during the year. New York State FBLA is composed of nearly 8000 members in 175 chapters.
Canastota members are looking forward to representing New York state at the National Leadership Conference being held this June in Atlanta, GA. Fundraising activities are being planned to raise funds for this trip. We hope you will support the Canastota Chapter at their upcoming chicken barbeque being held at the school May 17.
