unnamed (2)The public is invited to attend a free exhibit featuring Mohawk Valley Community College’s Camera Obscura on Tuesday, April 26 from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Sculpture Space studio.
The exhibit is the result of an interdisciplinary project that combines art, humanities, and education. Funded by a $15,000 grant supported by the SUNY Arts and Humanities Network of Excellence, the project was meant to empower students in Central and Upstate New York to create “narrative identities” for their communities through exhibits, performances, and other public art projects.
Todd Behrendt, interim assistant dean of MVCC’s Center for Arts and Humanities, collaborated with his students to create the camera obscura. For over a year, they experimented with and refined it, ultimately converting a room into a walk-in camera with the capability to capture images outside without the use of modern technology.

Student collaborators include: Quinn Coniguliaro, Cheyenne Foll, Dylan Fuller, M’Kyla Hanford, Joshua Hepworth, Troy Himmelreich, Tai Hua, Rahnelle Jackson, Robert Lyubezhanin, Alexander McGill, Meghan Rose and Nina Salerno.
Sculpture Space is pleased to be the first stop for the MVCC Camera Obscura tour. Later it will visit other spaces throughout Utica.
