On Sunday May 1st at 1:00 pm the Friends of Lorenzo will host the presentation “Finding Faith in Peterboro Dirt:  Archaeology and Religion at the Gerrit Smith Estate National Historic Landmark” by Archaeologist Hadley Kruczek-Aaron at the Smithfield Community Center in Peterboro.  This event is being held is being sponsored by the Lorenzo State Historic Site in honor of Preservation Month.  Kruczek-Aaron, an associate professor of anthropology at SUNY Potsdam, will share her on-site experiences, research and writings about the everyday practice of religion and reform in 19th century Springfield.  Copies of Dr. Kruczek-Aaron’s 2015 book Everyday Religion:  An Archaeology of Protestant Belief and Practice in the Nineteenth Century will be available for sale after the presentation.  There is no charge for this event.  For more information please visit please call Diane Voss at 315-655-3200 extension 100 or visitwww.friendsoflorenzo.org.

On Sunday May 1st from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm the Madison County Historical Society will host a Heritage Handicraft Workshop on Paper Mache.  Come and learn how to decoratively paint your very own paper mache basket toting bunny.  Instructor Pamela Vogan Lynch will guide attendees in proper techniques resulting in sturdy objects for decorative and utilitarian purposes.  Registration required by April 28th, tickets are $14 for historical society members and $16 for non-members.  Light refreshments will be served.  For more information or to register please call 315-363-4136 or visit www.mchs1900.org.
