The Schweinfurth Art Center will feature artwork by members of the Surface Design Association in its summer exhibit, Transgressing Traditions: Contemporary Textiles by the Surface Design Association. The exhibit will include 65 pieces from across the U.S. and around the world, including France, Hungary and Australia.

The goal of the exhibition is to showcase contemporary fiber artists who expand on traditional media and meaning, pushing boundaries and traditions of textile and fiber design. Transgressing Traditions opens June 3 with the artist reception that runs from 5-8pm. Entry to the reception is free, and it is open to the public. Events that evening include:

5-5:30pm: Talk with Juror Dorie Millerson

5:30-6pm: Gallery walk about with Dorie Millerson

6:30-7pm: Artist meet & greet

7pm: Prizes awarded

There will also be local wine, refreshments, and a chance to meet the artists of the exhibit.

Transgressing Traditions: Contemporary Textiles was juried by Dorie Millerson, Karen Hampton, and the Schweinfurth’s Executive Director, Donna Lamb.

The Schweinfurth Art Center is a multi-art center that offers a range of exhibits, classes and programs for all ages throughout the year. Admission is $7 for adults. Members, exhibiting artists and 12 & under free. The Art Center is open Tuesday- Saturday, 10 am – 5 pm and Sunday 1 – 5

pm. The Transgressing Traditions exhibition will be open through August 21, 2016.
