Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps cadet volunteers will honor service men and women by posting Memorial Flags at Calvary Cemetery, 2407 Oneida St., Utica, at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 28. The public is welcome.
The NJROTC is sponsored by the U.S. Navy and is a secondary school program for students. Students may participate in the program between 10th and 12th grades. They are not recruited or obligated to enter the military; it is a citizenship and leadership development program. NJROTC teaches self-discipline, leadership, respect and self-determination skills to assist students in successfully accomplishing life’s goals.
This weekend flags will be placed at gravesites to honor and pay respect to veterans. Memorial Day is a day of remembering and tribute to the men and women who died while serving in the military.
