On May 19, at approximately 10:13 a.m., State Police stopped a vehicle on I-87 for speeding. The driver of the vehicle, Nelson R. Ferreira, 21, of Bronx, NY, and his passenger, Erick J. Matos, 20, of Bronx, NY, were found to be in possession of more than 13 ounces of marijuana and four Alprazolam* pills. Ferreira and Matos were transported and processed at SP Albany where they were subsequently charged with:
- Criminal Possession of Marijuana in the 3rd Degree; a Class E Felony
- Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree; a Class A Misdemeanor

Ferreira and Matos were both arraigned at the Town of New Baltimore Court and remanded to the Green County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond. They are scheduled to reappear May 31 at 4 p.m.
*Alprazolam is used to treat anxiety and is a Schedule IV Controlled Substance, commonly known as Xanax.
