girl-scouts-of-americaTwo local Girl Scouts were recognized at a Young Women of Distinction luncheon on Saturday, May 21 with the highest award in Girl Scouts, the Girl Scout Gold Award.

To earn the prestigious Girl Scout Gold Award girls are challenged to chance the world. They complete a multi-step take action project that solves a community problem for years into the future. Earning the award also makes girls eligible for college scholarships. The Girl Scout Gold Award recipients are:

Gwen Bowan of Little Falls and Taylor Ketcham of Cazenovia.

Bowan is a graduate of Little Falls High School and is currently a student at SUNY Albany. Her take action project was titled “Little Falls Lending Libraries” and addressed the issue of literacy in the community.

Ketcham is a junior at Cazenovia High School. Her take action project to earn the Girl Scout Gold Award benefited the Always Love Project. She organized a series of events to raise awareness of the program which provides support for families that have lost a child in infancy.
