On Monday May 30 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm the Old Town of Eaton Museum will host the 21 Annual “Eaton Day.” The day is an opportunity for Eaton residents past and present to enjoy their history and eat some delicious homemade goods!!! This year’s theme is Preserving the Past for the Future. A baked sale featuring pies, tours of the museum, special crafts and rummage tables will all be available. On Wednesday June 1 at 6:00 pm the Oneida County Historical Society will host a special screening of the movie “Amelia.” The film follows the life of aviatrix Amelia Earhart. Following the movie Marolyn Wilson, aviatrix and co-owner of Holland Farms, will speak about women and air racing, specifically the 1929 Women’s Air Derby. Wilson flew from Santa Monica, CA to Cleveland, OH in the 50 anniversary recreation of the race in 1979. There is no charge for this event. From June 1 until July 15 the National Abolitionist Hall of Fame and Museum will host a special Changing American Exhibit entitled “Emancipation Proclamation 1863 and the March on Washington 1963.” This special traveling display will only be available for viewing during the month of June during the weekend hours of 1-4 pm and for special events. From June 2 until July 3 the Picker Art Gallery at Colgate University will host a special exhibition entitled: “Converging Perspectives: Interdisciplinary Approaches to the Permanent Collection.” This exhibit presents eight examples of faculty and student approaches to the permanent collection of the Picker Art Gallery across the four academic divisions at Colgate: Arts and Humanities, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences and Mathematics. On Friday June 3 from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm the Oneida Community Mansion House presents “Practical Preservation: Masonry, Roofing and Windows, Oh My! Preservation experts from Crawford and Stearns, Jerome R. Durr Studio, Lupini Construction, Bell & Spina and Lorenzo State Historic Site will address practical matters of preservation for historic sites and homes. Cornell Universities Historic Preservation Director Michael Tomlan, Ph.D., will present “Historic Preservation: Caring for Our Expanding Legacy” during lunch. On Saturday June 18 at 10:00 am the Erieville Nelson Heritage Society will have a special historic marker unveiling celebrating the Syracuse & Chenango Valley railroad. The marker is located at the former location of the water take, restored as part of an Eagle Scout project a few years ago. The dedication will feature special railroad speakers, light refreshments and more. The sign was made possible by a grant from the William G. Pomeroy Foundation. On Sunday June 19 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm the MG Car Club of Central New York will host the 13th annual Eurocar European Motorcar and Motorbike Show at the Lorenzo State Historic Park in Cazenovia. On Thursday June 30 at 7:00 pm the Lorenzo State Historic Site will host a special presentation of Shakespeare on Lawn performing “Romeo & Juliet.” With support from the Friends of Lorenzo the Red House Arts Center will present a free performance of “Romeo & Juliet” on the front lawn of the Lorenzo State Historic Site. Six actors, utilizing only a costume rack and trunk of props, will perform all of the roles of one of the most famous plays of all time. The performance is weather dependent.
