Rebecca Hagmann of Morrisville was one of 54 outstanding SUNY Oneonta students selected to receive a 2016 Academic Achievement Award this spring. Each academic department or program selected one to three outstanding seniors to receive the award.
Hagmann received the Educational Psychology, Counseling and Special Education Department award.
To be considered for the award, a student must have a minimum grade-point average of 3.5 in his or her major and must demonstrate exceptional academic improvement over four semesters, as well as excellence in research; leadership and involvement in department, campus and community activities; or participation in academic or professional situation outside the college.
Hagmann completed the master’s degree in school counseling program. While working as a special education teacher, she continues to take courses toward her certificate of advanced study in school counseling.
Over the past few years, Hagmann has actively participated in several professional development opportunities, including volunteering at conferences and attending workshops and trainings. These include the SUNY Oneonta Leadership Program, Creating Suicide Safety Workshop, Self-Care Workshop, Dignity for All Students Act Training, NYSSCA Training, Anti-Defamation League Workshop, SUNY Op-Inforum, 10th Annual Best Practices in Teaching and Counseling Conference, ASCA Code of Ethics Workshop, CPI Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training, Promoting Positive Behavior Through Social Emotional Teaching Strategies Workshop and Responding to Challenging Behaviors in Early Education Workshop. Hagmann has also served as a graduate assistant for SUNY Oneonta’s school counseling program.
