Chavous John Q 083166On June 4, at approximately 3:51 a.m., State Police stopped a vehicle on I-90 at Exit 25 for multiple traffic violations. The driver of the vehicle, John Q. Chavous, 49, of Scotia, was found to be impaired by drugs and in possession of cocaine, crack-cocaine, heroin, several controlled substances in pill form and numerous trademark counterfeit DVDs.
Chavous was taken into custody, transported, and processed at SP Albany where he was evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert. Chavous refused to submit to a blood draw to determine the drug content in his system and was subsequently charged with:

  • Fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class C felony
  • Third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance: intent to sell, a class B felony
  • Seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeanor
  • Fourth-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a class A misdemeanor
  • Second-degree trademark counterfeiting, a class E felony
  • Driving while ability impaired by drugs; a misdemeanor
  • Numerous vehicle and traffic violations
He was arraigned before the Town of Guilderland Court and remanded to the Albany County Jail without bail, to reappear June 9 at 5 p.m.
