The Holy Cross Academy Select Choir under the direction of Scott Rutledge sang the national anthem for the Philadelphia Phillies vs Washington Nationals major league baseball game on Tuesday May 31.

“The Phillies received over a thousand submissions to sing at Citizens Band Park in Philadelphia, and for us to be selected to sing a game for this storied franchise is an honor and a once in a lifetime experience,” said Rutledge.

The Select Choir is best known for winning three consecutive Darien Lake Gospel Choir Championships from 2010—2012. They were also members of the Holy Cross Senior Choir that was awarded grand championship and high scorers from among dozens of choirs at the 2013 festival.

While in Philadelphia, the choir will visit The Reading Terminal Market, the Liberty Bell, Constitution Hall, and the “Rocky” statue.

“These kids have earned this; some have worked for six years for this opportunity,” said Rutledge.
