Summer-Reading-Program-PNWThe area’s largest youth summer reading program kicks off July 5

The Utica Public Library’s Super Summer Reading kicks off July 5! Sponsored by the M&T Bank/Partners Trust Bank Charitable Fund, a donor-advised fund of The Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties, Inc., Super Summer Reading at the Utica Public Library runs through Aug. 26.

Super Summer Reading at the Utica Public Library is not your average summer reading program. Instead, the Library offers three options for the area’s youth to make their summer super! Wee ones ages 0-3 can join the SuperBabies! program. Parents and caregivers partake in super fun activities with their little ones to win prizes and a free book!

Ages 4-18 can pick up a Super Reading Log, and if they read at least one book for each week of the program, they can can pick up a free book at the end of the summer. Returning this year is the Summer Super Challenge which was very positively received by participants, caregivers and teachers last summer.

Ages 10-18 are able to join the Super Challenge with activities geared to get participants to EXPLORE, CARE, CREATE and PLAY in the Utica area. Each participant receives a Challenge Game Board and a Journal to record their experiences. Everyone who completes the Challenge will be entered to win either a Yi Action Sports HD camera or a Kindle Fire tablet.

The Super Challenge is a unique way to get area youth engaged in the Library, reading, and the community as a whole, while doing a wide variety of fun activities all summer long.

Of course, Super Summer Reading also features a tremendous lineup of programs and events at the Library.

From big programs including performances by jugglers, magicians, and puppets; visits from birds of prey, an Olympian, and a Jedi Academy; to smaller programs such as storytimes, gaming, and craft programs, this year’s slate of programming has something for everyone!

The summer’s jam-packed calendar of events concludes with the return of FANDEMICON, Utica’s pop culture convention on Saturday, Aug. 20. Last year’s con was a huge success with nearly 700 attendees, and this year’s full-day family friendly free fandom convention will be even more amazing with great guests, activities and exhibitors.
