View, a multi-arts center located in Old Forge, announces a reception Saturday, June 25, from 5 to 7 p.m., celebrating the opening of Branches, Brambles, & Roots, Atelier Four and The Art of Logging: Drawings and Sculptures by Lavern Kelley. Preceding the opening, artist, and Branches, Brambles & Roots judge Bob Erickson will be giving a lecture on his ongoing body of work North in Gould Hall from 4 to 5 p.m. The reception and lecture are free and open to the public.Branches, Brambles, & Roots is an open media national juried exhibition featuring 62 artists from across the country, celebrating trees in all their myriad uses and forms. The exhibition was judged by printmaker Bob Erickson, and woodworker Michael Trivieri, and offers over $3,000 in awards and prizes. The exhibition runs through July 31.
Atelier Four is comprised of four printmakers, Amy Georgia Buchholz, Bruce Muirhead, Jake Muirhead, and William Salzillo, based primarily at Hamilton College. The four artists have been creating, working, and exhibiting together for a long period of time, with each maintaining a distinct voice within the group that is equally complimented by the voice of the other. The exhibition runs through July 24.
Lavern Kelley was a self-taught woodworker, whose obsession with the machinery and tools of the logging industry was the primary focus of his sculptures and drawings. The exhibition runs through Sept. 4.
